Saturday, August 27– 8:30 am- Meet at Petro Can/ Humpty’s: Highwood Pass Alpine Wildflowers (MOD), HWY. 40, Kananaskis

Distance: 12 km + 400 meters elevation gain: 5 hours hiking

Description: A high alpine hike to a cirque with colourful foliage and phenomenal views. An optional grassy climb makes for outstanding views of the surrounding peaks. You may choose to continue on across scree slopes to reach the pass and spectacular views.

 

Wednesday, Oct. 5 – 8:00 am - Meet at Petro Can/ Humpty’s: Burstall Pass Larch Hike  – Smith Dorrien – Spray Trail (HWY 742), Kananaskis 

Distance: 16 km + 475 metres elevation gain: 5-6 hours hiking   

Description: We’ll visit the Burstall Lakes , get a glimpse of Robertson Glacier and climb past larch forests to a spectacular alpine pass.  


Saturday, October 8 8:00 am - Meet at Allen Bill Meet Place , Hwy. 66:  Jumpingpound Summit  (AL/MOD) - Powderface Trail,  Kananaskis Distance: 10 km + 400 m elevation gain: 4-5 hours hiking time.

 

Saturday, October 29 8:00 am- Meet at Petro Can/ Humpty’s: Prairie View Fire Lookout (MOD) - Hwy 40, Kananaskis

Distance: 12 km + 500 m elevation gain: 5 hours hiking time. Description: A single-track trail climbs through the trees to a fantastic viewpoint. An optional climb to the fire lookout rewards you with panoramic views. The descent follows the fire road through the tress back to Barrier Dam.

Saturday, September 24– 8:00 am-  Meet at Petro Can/ Humpty’s:  Buller Pass Larch (MOD/INT) - Smith Dorrien – Spray Trail (HWY 742), Kananaskis 

Distance: 12 km + 400 or 600 metres elevation gain: 5-6 hours hiking  

Description: A meandering trail leads to a waterfall, unique rock outcrops, rugged cliff bands and an open alpine valley. A steep rocky slope leads to Buller Pass where spectacular views of Ribbon Lake and Mount Assiniboine are achieved.

 

Wednesday, October 12– 8:00 am-  Meet at Allen Bill Meet Place, Hwy. 66: Moose Mountain- Highway 66, Bragg Creek, Kananaskis

Distance: 15 km + 570 - 670 metres elevation gain: Final 100 metres optional - views attained prior to this assent. Description: This fire lookout hike starts out on a wide forested trail. The summit offers an unequaled view looking 120 km in all directions.  

 

Saturday, October 15- 8:00 am - Meet at Petro Can/ Humpty’s: Cox Hill Views  Powderface Trail,   Kananaskis 

Distance:  14 km + 450-600 m elevation gain: 5-6 hours hiking  

   

Intermediate Hikes

 

Wednesday, September 7–8:00 am - Meet at Allen Bill Meet Place , Hwy. 66: Forgetmenot Ridge (INT), Elbow Falls Trail (Hwy. 66), Kananaskis

Distance:  14 km + 740 m elevation gain: 6-7 hours hiking    Description: Breathtaking views are your reward for a steep and strenuous climb. Mountains Glasgow , Cornwall , Outlaw and Banded Peak ; a panoramic view of these mountain are your constant companions throughout the hike.

 

Snowshoe

 

Level of difficulty: 
AL= 3-4 trail hours   MOD= 4-5 trail hours 

 

Saturday, December 10- 8:30 am - Meet at Allen Bill Meet Place, Hwy. 66: Prairie Creek Snowshoe,  Highway 66, Elbow Valley

Description:  Snowshoeing takes no technical ability and is as easy as walking but much more fun!  Call Lori (229-4299) for more information on where to RENT SNOWSHOES.
