(link to buy tickets is here and below) \n\n\n\n\nMore about the panelists:\n\nLori Beattie\, is a Calgary-based author\, walking guide\, and owner of Fit Frog Adventures\, specializing in urban hiking and cycling. As the bestselling author of Calgary’s Best Walks and Calgary’s Best Bike Rides\, she curates city routes that connect neighbourhoods\, nature\, and local businesses. She is known for promoting active living through guided tours\, her blog\, and her role as a media contributor.\nJeremy Klaszus\, is a Calgary journalist who has been reporting on the city for more than 20 years. He launched The Sprawl in 2017 to help fill the ever-widening gaps in the city’s media landscape. Prior to launching The Sprawl\, he was a staff writer for Fast Forward Weekly\, a columnist for the Calgary Herald and Metro\, and a radio reporter for CBC. He is the host of Sprawlcast\, Calgary’s in-depth municipal podcast\, which also airs on CJSW 90.9 FM.\nLauren Wren\, runs the viral @walking_yyc video series Instagram page\, walking every neighbourhood of Calgary. SUMMARY:FREE JANES WALK! Folk art\, hidden stairways\, big views\, and the urban wilds: Connecting Ramsay and Inglewood
DESCRIPTION:Walk with Lori!\nCelebrate the joy of walking with Lori Beattie\, intrepid urban explorer and author of Calgary’s Best Walks. Discover how Lori moves through the city\, connecting communities on foot and searching out folk art\, little libraries\, big views\, hidden stairways and conversations.\n\n\nWhat is a “Janes Walk”?\nJane’s Walk is an annual festival of free\, community-led walking conversations inspired by urbanist and writer Jane Jacobs. On the first weekend of May every year\, Jane’s Walk festivals take place in hundreds of cities around the world. This event encourages people to share stories about their neighbourhoods\, discover unseen aspects of their communities\, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours. \n\n\n\nLori’s Janes Walk description\nWe’ll travel along the Bow River Pathway and onto the side streets of the colourful and eclectic Inglewood and Ramsay. Murals\, little libraries and my pups favourite dog treat library are all part of the walk as we make up way to the top of Scotsman’s Hill. We’ll soak up the views before descending to the Elbow River Pathway. A walk north along the river path leads us to the Confluence\, where the Elbow and Bow Rivers meet. If timing allows\, we’ll walk through St. Patrick’s Island or we’ll take Inglewood side streets back to our starting point. Walkers are welcome to break away from the pack to soak up the people-populated 9th Avenue. It is the perfect street to head to if you need to replenish lost calories with a tasty and refreshing pick me up (coffee\, ice cream\, beer)!\n\nMore details and registration:\nFriday\, May 1 at 1- 3 pm: The walk will be about 7.5 km with hills\, stairs and uneven terrain. All Janes Walks are FREE!
