SUMMARY:Stanley Glacier\, Kootenay National Park
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nA wonderful trail zigzags through shrubs and wildflowers in July and August and into fall foliage in September before entering a wide-open valley below Stanley Glacier. Waterfalls\, glaciers\, and big views are constant on this fantastic hike. There will be an option to hike more challenging terrain to the hanging valley. This extra part of the hike includes across boulders and up and down steep rocky and loose gravel slopes. People who do not want to hike the extra can choose to wait at the end of the official trail and look for fossils! The option to split the group with some waiting and some climbing will only happen if the weather is good (not raining or threatening rain). DESCRIPTION:Description:\nThis stunning high alpine hike in the Highwood Pass of Kananaskis is breathtaking at any time but especially in the fall when the larches put on a display of colour.  We hike through the trees on a zig zaggy\, sometimes muddy\, trail to Pocaterra cirque where creeks flow and larches are abundant. A climb towards Pocaterra Ridge leads to panoramic views. There are many spots to sit and soak it up while others may continue to climb and return the same way. This will be an out-and-back hike and people can choose how far they want to hike up the ridge. \nMeet Place:\nShell station across from COP \nDirections:\nWe will drive form the Shell Station to the Highwood Pass parking lot\, Hwy 40\, Kananaskis (trailhead for Pocaterra Ridge and Ptarmigan Cirque trails). The start of the trail keeps you shaded from the summer sun as you gradually climb. The hike starts with a wide\, rolling trail that narrows as you go. The lush forest and the bridge over Healy Creek are stunning\, submerging you in the idyllic natural universe of the Canadian Rockies. We’ll take Simpson pass through meadows\, and past lakes before entering the golden larch-filled alpine meadows that lead to Healy Pass. Views of lakes and waterfalls and peak upon peak are your reward. \nMeet Place:\nMeet at the Sunshine Ski Hill parking which is also the Healy Pass trailhead.
