We’ll climb to the top of Yates Mountain where a fire lookout is perched\, and have lunch before looping back on the Prairie View Trail. \nMeet Place:\nTim Horton’s\, Hwy 40\, Kananaskis \nDirections:\nBarrier Dam Trailhead: Follow Hwy 1 west to Hwy 40. Take Hwy 40 to the Barrier Dam Parking lot (just past the Kananaskis Visitor Centre and before the Kananaskis Village and Nakiska Ski Hill turn off). \nDistance/Length:\nRated (MOD/INT)\, 12 km + 600 meters elevation gain: 5-6 hours hiking. There is an option for some people to stop after about 500 metres of elevation gain and enjoy the views. \nCarpool Option:\nWhen possible\, carpooling will be arranged. SUMMARY:Stanley Glacier\, Kootenay National Park
DESCRIPTION:Description:\nA wonderful trail zigzags through shrubs and wildflowers in July and August and into fall foliage in September before entering a wide-open valley below Stanley Glacier. Waterfalls\, glaciers\, and big views are constant on this fantastic hike. There will be an option to hike more challenging terrain to the hanging valley. This extra part of the hike includes across boulders and up and down steep rocky and loose gravel slopes. People who do not want to hike the extra can choose to wait at the end of the official trail and look for fossils! The option to split the group with some waiting and some climbing will only happen if the weather is good (not raining or threatening rain). Take Hwy 1 (Trans Canada) west to Hwy 40. Continue along Hwy 40 to the Galatea trailhead\, just past the Village of Kananaskis. \nDistance/Length:\nRated MOD/INT to Lillian Lake and INT to Galatea Lake and Guinn’s Pass:  Lillian Lake is 12.5 km + 475 metres round trip; Galatea Lake is 17 km +675 metres elevation gain round trip ( 6+ hiking hours including lunch stop to Galatea Lake and 7 + hours to Guinn’s Pass) \nCarpool Option:\nWhen possible\, carpooling will be arranged from Calgary. It is not guaranteed but may be an option.
