I’ll show you a primo picnic spot on a secret pathway overlooking the Elbow River and Glenmore Dam before we cross the Dam and follow the single-tack trails along the Elbow River below the Dam. Stunning views of downtown and the river change to Rockies views as we climb the slopes from the river Valley back to our starting point. \nRegistration & Fees:\nWant to join us? DESCRIPTION:Description:\nThis stunning high alpine hike in the Highwood Pass of Kananaskis is breathtaking at any time but especially in the fall when the larches put on a display of colour.  We hike through the trees on a zig zaggy\, sometimes muddy\, trail to Pocaterra cirque where creeks flow and larches are abundant. A climb towards Pocaterra Ridge leads to panoramic views. There are many spots to sit and soak it up while others may continue to climb and return the same way. This will be an out-and-back hike and people can choose how far they want to hike up the ridge. \nMeet Place:\nShell station across from COP \nDirections:\nWe will drive form the Shell Station to the Highwood Pass parking lot\, Hwy 40\, Kananaskis (trailhead for Pocaterra Ridge and Ptarmigan Cirque trails). Googl emap trailhead location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XkxL1hYmZT44qn9z9 \nDistance/Length:\nRated (MOD or INT to ridge)\, Round trip: 10 km + 400 meters elevation gain up to an OPTIONAL 875 metres if the summit is reached: 5+ hours hiking. Some may hike to the summit while others enjoy a break and soak up the views. \nCarpool Option:\nWhen possible\, carpooling will be arranged from the meet place.

DESCRIPTION:Description:\nThis Parks Canada Trail is well maintained and allows for beautiful views of many gorgeous peaks and Egypt Lake. The start of the trail keeps you shaded from the summer sun as you gradually climb. The hike starts with a wide\, rolling trail that narrows as you go. The lush forest and the bridge over Healy Creek are stunning\, submerging you in the idyllic natural universe of the Canadian Rockies. We’ll take Simpson pass through meadows\, and past lakes before entering the golden larch-filled alpine meadows that lead to Healy Pass. Views of lakes and waterfalls and peak upon peak are your reward. \nMeet Place:\nMeet at the Sunshine Ski Hill parking which is also the Healy Pass trailhead. Carpooling from Calgary might be possible so let me know if interested. \nDirections:\nPlease see the map below for directions to the Sunshine Ski Hill\, just west of Banff Townsite. \nDistance/Length:\nRated MOD/INT: 20 km + 700 metres elevation gain. 6+ hours hiking \nCarpool Option:\nWhen possible\, carpooling will be arranged from our meet place. About 1 hour 40 minutes drive from Calgary. \nDirections:\nHwy 1 (Trans Canada) west to Hwy 40. Continue along Hwy 40 to the turnoff on Kananaskis Lake Trail followed by another turn onto the Spray Lakes Road (Smith Dorrien Hwy 762). Continue on this gravel road to Chester Lake Parking lot where will use the bathrooms before driving another 15 minutes to the start of the hike. \nDistance/Length:\nRated MOD/INT: 15 km + 730 m elevation gain\, 6 +hours round trip. \nCarpool Option:\nWhen possible\, carpooling will be arranged from the Shell station in Calgary
