Mount Lipsett, Kananaskis

Description:

This scenic trail takes you to breathtaking views of the front ranges. Mount Lipsett trail is a moderately challenging summit hike near Highwood Pass with remarkable views of the surrounding mountain landscape. It’s a great hike to experience classic Highwood region ecology which changes as you gain elevation. In the fall, golden hues blanket from larches, shrubs and aspens blanket the slopes. In the Spring and summer, forests of bog orchids and red paintbrush at lower elevations give way to flowery alpine meadows closer to the summit.

Rated (MOD/INT), 14 km + 700* meters elevation gain: 5-6 hours hiking time

Petro Can Station, 37 Street just north of Glenmore Trail (see map below)

Directions:

We travel south to Longview and then west on Hwy 541 (which becomes Hwy 40) into the Kananaskis.  Park at the official pull off (no bathroom) 6.9 km south of Mount Lipsett day-use area/ 4.5 km north of Mist Creek day-use area.
