This is a spectacular, CHALLENGING scramble/hike & ridge walk that offers the hiker panoramic views of the Spray Lakes Valley and Banff National Park. You’ll be able to see Mount Assiniboine on a clear day. YOU MUST BE COMFORTABLE with rocky terrain, exposure, using your hands to climb and balance at times, and steep descents. If you have a fear of heights you should not come on this hike as the route is alongside steep drop-offs and steep slopes throughout the day.
Shell Gas Station, across from COP OR meet at Chester Lake trailhead, Spray Lakes Road, Kananaskis at 9 am. About a 1 hour 40 minutes drive from Calgary.
Chester Lake Trailhead: Hwy 1 (Trans Canada) west to Hwy 40. Continue along Hwy 40 to the turnoff on Kananaskis Lake Trail followed by another turn onto the Spray Lakes Road (Smith Dorrien Hwy 762). Continue on this gravel road to Chester Lake Parking lot where will use the bathrooms before driving another 10 minutes to the start of the hike.
Rated ADV: 13 km + 800 m elevation gain, 5-6 hours round trip.
When possible, carpooling will be arranged from the meeting place. It is not guaranteed but may be an option.
